On this occasion, we have organized an exceptional online masterclass next March 2nd, at 8pm AEDT (Australia-Melbourne), 10am CET, with Malcolm Smith, Australasian Cities Leader, Arup Fellow in Masterplanning + Urban Design.

Great cities are characterized by being in a continual state of change, some planned, some unplanned. History shows us that in change, long term uses/activities work in concert with short term uses/activities. But in many contemporary city projects, we fail to include the short term – the temporary – as part of the devices we can use to make thriving places.

‘Tactics of the temporary’ will talk about why and how we include temporary strategies – land use, landscape, infrastructure - as part of contemporary placemaking, from looking at examples, understanding the value propositions, to examining how this is being included in innovative planning environments. It will examine the difference between planned and unplanned temporary conditions, and how this way of thinking enables places to address their resilience in new ways.
