Traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony

About this Event

The tea ceremony is rooted in Zen Buddhism as well as the Japanese appreciation for tea. It is called Sado in Japanese that literally means "The Way of Tea", it is a communal ritual of grace, presence, and respect. The tea host who has carefully chosen and planned everything ahead of time wholeheartedly prepares a cup of matcha green tea for you by performing a series of very precise movements which feel almost like a silent dance.

The tea ceremony is held in a traditional tea room with tatami mats on the floor. The room is simple and rustic, with a minimal flower arrangement and hanging scroll. Guests walk down a garden path to the tea room and sit on the tatami floor. Then they take a moment to admire the simplicity of the tea room and calm their minds before the ceremony begins. Sometimes we need to pause for a moment to refuel. Taking the moment to enjoy a cup of tea allows you to appreciate this moment as you mindfully savor the brew.

Come join Eriko to experience the authentic tea ceremony and bring mindfulness to daily moments. You could prepare a cup of tea at home (it doesn’t have to be matcha, get something you like!) and enjoy it along with the tea ceremony.

☑️ Visit Eriko’s favorite tea house in a beautiful Japanese garden

☑️ Experience the authentic tea ceremony from a guest’s point of view

☑️ Learn how to make a cup of matcha and the significance of the ceremony

About The Host: Heygo started as a way for co-founders John and Liam to keep exploring new places. As avid travellers themselves, they wanted to help people stay connected with the world and for those in the travel industry to continue doing what they love. They believe that travel is an incredibly important way to break down cultural barriers and understand the world through other people’s eyes. They also recognize it is often a privilege reserved for the few. For many people, hopping on a plane half-way around the world is out of reach and comes with serious consequences for our planet’s health.John and Liam realised that there needed to be a way to embrace the culture of other countries in an environmentally conscious way; to still travel when family obligations makes it difficult to get away; and to keep exploring even when an injury or disability means travelling is harder. So that’s why they created Heygo - a travel specific live-streaming platform. One that would allow local guides to share the places they know best with the hope that it can bring people around the world closer together.
